As an interdisciplinary research area, it investigates vulnerabilities in food systems, develops risk assessment methodologies and mitigation strategies, and seeks to enhance the resilience of food production, processing, and distribution networks against deliberate threats aimed at causing harm to public health, economic stability, or national security.
